Context  about the role: Latin America and Caribbean ("LAC") business in Diageo comprises five markets: South-LAC (Paraguay, Uruguay, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina), Brazil, Mexico, CCA (Central America and Caribbean), Colombia and Venezuela (Andean). LAC is a region which counts with over 15 Free Trade Agreements and complex origin requirements; each country in LAC has its own customs and trade regulatory framework as well as its own Customs Agency. LAC's role in Diageo's international supply chain / global trade footprint includes exports and imports mostly, but also manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, Venezuela; in CCA countries a wide number of local co-packers, bottlers, and licensed brewers for Guinness and Ready-To-Drink products are involved in the chain including direct export to consumers in LAC markets. Panama is Diageo's largest logistic HUB for Latin America and Caribbean ("LAC"). The HUB is operated in Free Trade Zone Cólon and consolidates orders from various origins for re-exportation by Diageo's selling entity to Diageo importing entities and / or customers in Latin American countries. The use of Panama HUB in a free trade zone combined with claims of preferential customs duties requires reasonable care to ensure Diageo's compliance with the tax, customs and trade rules in the importing mark ets ("IMC"). Responsibilities - L5C: Responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following: Assist the Regional Trade Compliance team in implementing and monitoring measures to mitigate risks related to imports and exports in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) markets. Monitor the growing complexity of regional activities, such as product innovation, new sourcing strategies, and supply chain restructuring initiatives. Provide support for both external and internal customs audits, aiming to mitigate Diageo's reputational, financial, and commercial risks, particularly in countries with direct consumer routes. Collaborate closely with the Global Tax team to gather and track information for metrics, tax law compliance, and query tracking. Ensure governance documentation is kept up-to-date in line with global guidelines, including controls, global system impact assessment, internal audit (IA) recordkeeping, and other relevant requirements. Execute controls related to the processes inherent to the function and be point of contact for internal control audits as well as provide critical thinking on new and existing controls; Map all the exports done by the LAC countries in order to better assist on the issuance of Certificates of Origin, making sure the Rules of Origin are being applied. Engage in Diageos journey to craft a digital agenda for the global trade function by means of supporting the analysis, recommendation, and implementation of software in close collaboration with other functional areas. Bring up critical issues arising from pre and post-entry audits and propose corrective actions required. Work together with Global Tax Compliance team on long term corrective actions to detailed issues. Deliver training on Trade Compliance matters to various departments across LAC region, promoting a culture of Trade Compliance within the stakeholders. Tasks - L5C: Tasks to be executed by this role include but are not limited to the following: Brazil, South LAC and Regional: 1) Maintain the standardized recordkeeping database for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), ensuring compliance with legal requirements and statute of limitation periods in each importing market. 2) Collect and review documents and data requested by Customs Authorities during customs clearance and audits. 3) Collaborate closely with the customer service team to issue preferential statements and certificates of origin for exports, ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures for Free Trade Agreements (FTA). 4) Provide support to markets in evaluating business cases and implementing import chain strategies as needed. 5) Assist in establishing operational procedures between Trade Compliance and Brand Innovation regarding key trade data in SAP, including coordination with the Tax Data Governance team to ensure consistency across SAP plants and issuance of compliant documentation for importers. Regional: 1) Assist in the implementation of projects affecting Global Trade in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), including identifying processes needing review and documentation, and updating/implementing procedures (close collaboration with Regional Customs & Excise lead and business units). 2) Support the analysis of source and trade data to develop and implement trade compliance programs, conduct Free Trade Agreement (FTA) reviews, and prepare documentation for subsidiaries. 3) Exercise decision-making skills by interpreting international and local regulations, laws, and guidance to provide technical support to the business for day-to-day operations. 4) Collaborate with the Global Tax and other teams on initiatives such as developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for LAC, resolving gaps, establishing metrics, and implementing systems. 5) Collaborate with Corporate Relations, Regulatory and Legal teams for external assessments. Professional experience: Substantial experience specializing in international trade, imports, exports, and customs matters, acquired in an International Law Firm, Consultancy, or Multinational setting. Minimum of 5 years of experience providing subject matter expert support for multifunctional and multinational projects. Track record of preparing and delivering training programs to internal stakeholders and third parties, such as customs brokers. Active involvement in pre-entry and post-entry audit programs. Exposure to customs compliance standards, certifications (e.g., CTPAT, AEO), and risk management is preferred. Familiarity with technologies such as Power BI, Trade Analytics, SAP Hana 4/GTS, and other relevant tools in the field of international trade is desirable. Competencies and qualifications we are looking for: Bachelor's degree in international trade, business with a specialization in international trade, or law with a focus on customs and international trade. Comprehensive understanding of international trade law, including familiarity with global instruments from organizations like the WCO and WTO, and their correlation with local legislation. Ability to interpret and assess legislation in Latin American & Caribbean countries concerning customs, import-related taxes, and compliance obligations associated with import, export, and special regimes. Preferably, possess end-to-end supply chain knowledge and hands-on experience in import and export operations. Capable of collaborating effectively with individuals from diverse countries and cultures. Proficient in navigating complex matrix environments to garner support and implement process enhancements. Demonstrated critical thinking skills with a proactive approach and a bias for action. Strong presentation, communication, and influencing skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in MS Office; experience with other relevant software/tools such as SAP GTS is advantageous. Fluency in Portuguese and Spanish, along with advanced oral and written proficiency in English, is required. Availability for travel as needed.
